Blewett mushroom.

At the end of 2020 I found this Blewett mushroom which must have been one of the last to fruit in the year.

Tree bark textures.

Every type of tree has got its own type of bark and bark texture. It is interesting not only to look at the bark of different trees but also to feel their different textures. For those of you who may not be quite sure here they are once again from top to bottom:-

Horse Chestnut, Alder, Lime, Oak, Cedar, Beech, Cherry, Hawthorn, Hazel, Hornbeam.

Winter tree buds..

There is not a great deal to see on the Park at this time of year with regard to plants and wildlife but the winter tree buds are great in close-up. Some of the pictures have not got labels so from top to bottom the buds are:-

Alder, Ash, Beech, Cherry, Hawthorn, Hazel, Hornbeam, Horse Chestnut, Lime, Oak, Poplar.

Friends Work Party clear the Activity Area.

On 17th December a small work party cleared the Activity Area and completed the removal of the encroaching Hawthorn scrub on the steep slope - it should properly be called the Vale.

It is hoped that we may be able to carry out some Events later in the year when it is safe to do so and by which time we hope to have Local Nature Reserve status.

Old River Stort cleared by the fishermen.

The Old River Stort had become badly clogged by fallen trees and it has been cleared by the fishing club. It all looks a bit drastic at present but it will be interesting to see how it recovers in the next 12 months.

Winter Solstice mini celebration.

As a symbolic start to the New Year which starts at the time of the Winter Solstice on 21st December, one of the tree enclosures by the Friends bench was decorated and lit with battery lights. It is hoped that in future this may be something that can be run as an event by the Friends and the tree enclosures along Oak Walk decorated and lit up in this same way.
